Reducing Paid Dependence for a Direct-to-Consumer Home Goods Brand

A demo case study exploring how a growing D2C home goods brand could reduce acquisition costs by rebalancing paid spend with organic and retention channels.

Coral & Clay — Reducing Paid Dependence for a Direct-to-Consumer Home Goods Brand

The Challenge

Rising paid acquisition costs were squeezing margins for a direct-to-consumer brand that had grown almost entirely through paid social, leaving little room for profitable scale.

The Opportunity

A mix of organic content, lifecycle/retention marketing and sharper audience segmentation in paid campaigns reduces dependence on any single channel and improves blended CAC over time.

The Strategy

For this demo, we sketched a channel mix moving a portion of budget from broad paid social prospecting into content, email lifecycle flows and retargeting built around actual customer segments.

The Execution

We outlined a content calendar built around product use-cases, a retention flow structure (welcome, post-purchase, win-back), and a leaner paid strategy focused on retargeting warm audiences rather than broad prospecting.

The Outcome

As a demo case study, this project illustrates the intended approach rather than reporting live performance data. Outcomes shown below are illustrative placeholders — see the DEMO label on every figure.

Key Learnings

For D2C brands facing rising CAC, the fastest relief usually comes from retention and organic content picking up demand that paid was previously buying at an increasing cost.
